Creating bigger yet lighter ships... with Aluminium Castings!

Ships need to be light to move fast with reduced drag and remain fuel-efficient. Doing so allows them to haul higher loads for the same or even lesser quantities of fuel.

One way of reducing weight is to switch to aluminium in essential parts of the engine, steering mechanism, or the hull. Doing so should make the ships of tomorrow larger yet lighter enabling more cargo to be carried for the same quantity of fuel consumed. Another property of aluminium that may assist the maritime trade in becoming cost-effective is the metal’s ability to remain corrosion-free unlike iron and steel thereby significantly lowering maintenance costs.
